In the Karkaraly District of the Karaganda Region, dry grass has caught fire. The fire is burning in an open area and in hard-to-reach mountainous terrain.

WHERE THE FIRE BROKE OUT

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), the fire broke out near the village of Besoba. Firefighting is being complicated by strong gusts of wind and the mountainous terrain, which are making access to individual pockets of fire difficult.

A Kazaviaspas helicopter with a water-dropping device flew to the scene for an aerial visual survey, monitoring of the situation and extinguishing of individual pockets of fire. Two water drops were carried out from aboard the aircraft.

WHO IS COORDINATING THE WORK

An operational headquarters has been set up at the Department of Emergency Situations (DES) of the Karaganda Region. It is coordinating the actions of the involved forces and resources of the MES and local executive bodies.

The department noted that there is no threat to populated areas.

CONTEXT

The fire is burning against the backdrop of a difficult fire situation in the neighbouring Kostanay Region. On 8 September, in the Denisovsky District, 11 fires were recorded, and in the Karabalyksky District a large wildfire spread to the territory of the Karadumskoye Forestry.

The fire in the Karabalyksky District was completely extinguished on 9 September over an area of about 850 hectares. At the same time, a high and extreme fire danger persisted in certain districts of the Kostanay Region.
