In August 2026, the Border Service of the National Security Committee (BS NSC) detained 5,588 violators of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the border zone. Among them were 4,907 foreign nationals.
WHAT IS KNOWN
In August, the BS NSC, in cooperation with competent authorities, prevented 2,089 instances of the illegal movement of goods and cargo across the state border.
In particular, 30 instances of the illegal movement of narcotic substances were recorded. A further 68 instances relating to weapons and ammunition were also prevented. These included 5 air weapons, 130 bladed weapons, and 228 units of ammunition.
WHAT GOODS WERE ATTEMPTED TO BE MOVED ACROSS THE BORDER
The Border Service prevented 1,061 instances of the illegal movement of fuels and lubricants totalling over 159 tonnes.
In addition, the illegal export or import of consumer goods was prevented in 751 cases, amounting to more than 1.8 billion tenge. A further 179 instances concerned currency totalling more than 1.5 billion tenge.
VIOLATIONS IN THE CASPIAN SEA WATERS
In the waters of the Caspian Sea, 61 instances of poaching were stopped. According to the NSC, officers seized poaching gear and sturgeon fish.
The total value of prevented damage amounted to over 561 million tenge.
CRIMINAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE CASES
Within its remit, the BS NSC opened 63 criminal cases, for which investigative measures are underway.
There are also 4,886 administrative cases in progress. Fines totalling more than 40 million tenge have been imposed in connection with these. Materials relating to the remaining identified instances have been forwarded to law enforcement and judicial authorities for procedural decisions.
CONTEXT
In May 2026, the BS NSC identified 146 instances of the illegal movement of currency totalling 1.5 billion tenge. Materials relating to the other identified violations were forwarded to law enforcement and judicial authorities for procedural decisions.
Between 30 June and 7 July 2026, the BS NSC recorded 38 attempts to transport undeclared currency totalling more than 636 million tenge. At the Korday checkpoint, $350,000 was found on a foreign national.
In July 2026, the BS NSC reported 149 instances of the illegal movement of foreign currency totalling more than 2.1 billion tenge. Over the course of that month alone, the agency prevented 2,476 instances of the illegal movement of goods and cargo with a total value of over 3.9 billion tenge.
Between 1 and 10 August, 70 attempts to transport undeclared currency were recorded at state border checkpoints. The total amount of cash discovered exceeded 645 million tenge.
