Tengizchevroil LLP (TCO) has temporarily halted oil production at the Tengiz and Korolevskoye fields.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to KazTAG citing the TCO press service, the decision was taken as a precaution due to a situation affecting some electrical distribution systems at the production facilities.
WHEN PRODUCTION WILL RESUME
No exact timeframe has been given for the resumption of oil production at the two fields. It is noted that the company's technical teams are working to establish the root cause of the situation.
SAFETY CONCERNS
The company stated that it is cooperating with state authorities to minimise any potential consequences. It was particularly emphasised that no one was injured as a result of the incident. Furthermore, all TCO production facilities are safe and protected.
KazTAG recalled that the day before, on 18 January, a fire occurred at the Tengiz field in the Zhylyoi district of the Atyrau region. The blaze was quickly contained.
