The suspect in the murder was extradited from Lithuania

The Prosecutor General's Office has reported the extradition of a citizen of Kazakhstan from the Republic of Lithuania. The man had been on an international wanted list for 17 years on suspicion of murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

According to the press service of the agency, in 2007 the suspect and another participant in the events arrived in Almaty. It is reported that their criminal activities led to a conflict with other members of the criminal underworld, after which they decided to eliminate one of their opponents.

It is alleged that on 19 May 2008, the perpetrators ambushed the victim in the courtyard of his home and fired several shots at him, including a shot to the head. The man died at the scene.

After the incident, one of the suspects was detained and convicted. The second fled and was placed on the international wanted list. To conceal his identity, he changed his personal details and was living in Europe.

In August of this year, while crossing the border of Lithuania, he was detained by local law enforcement authorities. At the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan, the man was extradited to his homeland.

The suspect is currently being held in a detention centre. The crimes he is accused of carry a penalty of imprisonment for a term of 10 to 20 years, or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office reported the extradition from the Russian Federation of a member of an organised criminal group suspected of the illegal legalisation of lorries imported into the country from abroad.
