In the military institute of the ground forces in Almaty, a sergeant committed suicide.

"In the Turksib district of Almaty, on the territory of the military institute of the ground forces, the body of a 44-year-old sergeant, I., was discovered." - reports CMN citing a source.

The institution confirmed the sergeant's death and noted that the deceased was not a cadet, but a contract serviceman.

"The leadership of the military institute of the ground forces expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the serviceman, and they will be provided with all necessary assistance", the statement reads.

It will be recalled that on 7 September, in military unit No. 25744 of the regional command 'West' in Aktau, a conscript died as a result of a shot fired by the camp duty officer.

Later, a video was circulated online, in which the father of the deceased claims that his son was shot in the face, allegedly by an officer.

Against the backdrop of the tragedy, concerned citizens have created a petition calling for the abolition of compulsory military service. The authors believe that the abolition of conscription in Kazakhstan is becoming relevant in light of the tragic deaths of servicemen.
