A 33-year-old resident of Kostanay has been hospitalised in a serious condition with peritonitis after a plastic surgery procedure at a private clinic. During liposuction, the patient's intestine was damaged.

According to ORDA, the woman called an ambulance herself on the third day after the operation. She was taken to Kostanay City Hospital, where, due to the patient's serious condition, specialists from Almaty's Syzganov National Scientific Centre of Surgery were consulted remotely.

"The woman's condition remains serious but stable. She has been taken off the artificial lung ventilation machine — she is now breathing on her own. She is fully conscious but cannot speak as she has a tracheostomy tube fitted. This will be removed after a full recovery," said Kuat Almagambetov, acting chief physician of Kostanay City Hospital.

Due to severe complications, doctors were forced to externalise the bowel. The patient faces several operations and a long period of rehabilitation.

The medical staff reported the incident to the regional health department. The department intends to pass the information to the pharmaceutical control authority. The victim's relatives have not yet filed a police report regarding medical negligence.

For context, in December last year, 73-year-old Nikolai Gubsky died after a repeat paid hospitalisation at the capital's Medical Centre of the Presidential Administration. His relatives claim his death could have been avoided and secured an investigation by the Ministry of Health.

According to the deceased's daughter, the expert review revealed numerous shortcomings in the provision of medical care, violations of treatment and diagnostic protocols, an inadequate assessment of the severity of his condition, and evidence of non-compliance with anti-corruption requirements.
