The prosecutor's office of Kurchatov in the Abai region cancelled a tender for the purchase of two yurts with a total cost of more than 9 million tenge after identifying inflated prices.

According to the Telegram channel "They've Already Been Sent for Us", on 20 June, the Kurchatov House of Culture published a notice on the public procurement portal about the purchase of two 12-ribbed yurts. They were prepared to spend 4.7 million tenge on each one.

However, the city prosecutors conducted a monitoring exercise and found that a similar product could be bought more cheaply — from 1 million to 3 million tenge.

"Inefficient planning and inflated prices for goods purchased using public funds lead to increased budget expenditure," the department reported.

At the same time, the prosecutor's office noted that the requirements for suppliers made it difficult for other potential sellers to participate.

It is worth recalling that the tender was for the purchase of yurts only, without furniture or national decorations. Journalists analysed similar tenders from May and June and found that the maximum price for 12-ribbed yurts did not exceed 2.6 million tenge.
