In Kyzylorda, an investigation continues into the case of a patient who fell into a coma after treatment for pneumonia. Relatives believe the man did not receive the necessary medical care, while the hospital insists on the correctness of the prescribed treatment.
The situation has led to disciplinary measures at the hospital and a police investigation into the actions of the medical staff.
HOW THE EVENTS UNFOLDED
According to the patient's wife, Karlygash Saktapbergenova, in the summer of 2024, her husband went to the hospital with symptoms of pneumonia and was hospitalised, reports Informburo.kz citing Channel 31. The very next day, he asked to be transferred to outpatient treatment due to severe stuffiness in the ward. The man was sent home.
During a taxi journey, the patient suffered a cardiac arrest. According to his wife, his heart did not beat for 10–11 minutes, leading to the cessation of brain function. Since that moment, the man has been unconscious for a year and seven months.
THE FAMILY'S POSITION
The patient's wife believes the tragedy could have been avoided. In her view, the doctors did not conduct a timely examination and did not prescribe the necessary treatment.
"All internal organs are working. The brain stopped functioning because the heart did not beat for 10–11 minutes. A person who came to get treatment on his own two feet ended up in this state," said Karlygash Saktapbergenova.
THE HOSPITAL'S RESPONSE
The Kyzylorda Regional Multidisciplinary Hospital disagrees with the accusations. The deputy chief physician, Gulsum Berzhapparova, stated that the patient was diagnosed with pneumonia, examined by a pulmonologist, and then prescribed treatment.
According to the hospital representative, there are no grounds to assert any violations in the treatment, and the patient's condition has remained unchanged throughout a year and a half of observation.
WHAT MEASURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN
Despite the hospital's position, the management of the medical institution issued a reprimand to the doctor who discharged the patient for outpatient treatment. At the same time, the police are conducting an investigation into the actions of the medical workers. No other conclusions or legal assessments of what happened have been announced so far.
