The Border Service of the National Security Committee (NSC) has summarised its operational results for 2025, reporting large-scale seizures of drugs, weapons, and currency, as well as the suppression of poaching in the Caspian Sea. The data presented reflects the key threats faced by Kazakhstan's border units.
BORDER VIOLATIONS
According to information from the NSC Border Service, during the year, more than 52,000 people were held accountable for violations of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the border area.
Over the same period, 17,541 cases of illegal movement of goods and cargo across the state border were prevented. The largest number of violations fell into the following categories:
- consumer goods — 8,083 cases;
- fuel and lubricants — 5,900 cases;
- currency — 2,052 cases;
- weapons and ammunition — 847 cases;
- religious literature — 315 cases;
- narcotic drugs — 344 cases, with over 1.5 tonnes seized.
FIGHT AGAINST POACHING IN THE CASPIAN SEA
A specific area of work for the NSC Border Service in 2025 involved the protection of biological resources in the Caspian Sea.
A total of 607 instances of poaching were suppressed, during which the following were seized:
- 226 watercraft;
- 580 km of nets and other illegal fishing gear;
- 2,376 sturgeon;
- 7,193 fish of partial species;
- 24 seals.
INTERNATIONAL AND INTER-AGENCY COOPERATION
During the year, the NSC Border Service, in cooperation with foreign partners and law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan, took part in:
- 48 border operations;
- 2 inter-agency operations aimed at combating drug trafficking and illegal migration;
- 5 international operations, including activities within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and operations to suppress illegal activities in the Caspian Sea area.
TOTAL DAMAGE
According to estimates from the NSC Border Service, the total amount of prevented damage for 2025 amounted to over 75 billion tenge.
