A Kazakh woman who is studying and working in Germany noticed that the cost of a selection of popular food items in German supermarkets was lower than in shops in Kazakhstan.

According to the Telegram channel «KAZAKH_INFORM», the woman recorded a video review in which she compared the prices of a number of products in detail. It is reported that the difference for some items was surprisingly large for her.

The video's creator weighed the products down to the gram, and collected the data on Kazakhstan remotely — based on prices from chain supermarkets.

"I am Kazakh, I study and work in Germany and recently compared the prices of products with Kazakhstan. Honestly, I was in shock!" she shared.

The first item in the comparison was avocado. 500 grams of the fruit cost €2.19 (1,277 tenge) in Germany and €6.10 (3,557 tenge) in Kazakhstan. Milk with 3.5% fat content costs €1 (582 tenge) in Germany and €1.44 (839 tenge) in Kazakhstan.

According to the woman, a significant difference was also observed in the prices of cherry tomatoes, 'traffic light' peppers, cream cheese, ribeye steaks, bread, eggs, cottage cheese, chocolate sponge cake, croissants, mushrooms, and garlic.

Separately, the author noted the cost of cream. A pack of 33% fat cream costs €0.99 (577 tenge) in Germany and €2.50 (1,457 tenge) in Kazakhstan. At the same time, the price of lemon and rocket, according to the woman, turned out to be almost the same in both countries.

Following the comparison, the basket of selected goods cost €36 (20,984 tenge) in Germany and €46 (26,812 tenge) in Kazakhstan.
