How will science be funded under the new law?

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

Members of the Mazhilis of the Republic of Kazakhstan have adopted amendments to the law on science and education. The new law introduces a new allowance for scientists.

According to baigenews, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education explained that the new law also gives local executive bodies the right to fund the scientific sphere. However, some deputies were sceptical about this. In their words, regions already lack funds even for the most essential things.

In response, Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki stated that the new law would allow for consideration of the specific characteristics of each region and their needs in scientific development. He believes that akimats will be able to use scientific research to solve problems in their regions.

Speaking about sources of funding, the Vice-Minister referred to the relevant article of the Budget Code. He noted that it provides the right to redistribute budget funds.

"Different regions have applied questions related to science. Solutions have been found. The ministry will establish certain rules. The ministry will provide assistance, and funding from local executive bodies will be provided," concluded Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki.
