Another detention of suspected poachers has been recorded on Lake Zhukey in the Burabay National Park in the Akmola Region.

According to Polisia.kz, the Burabay district police department received a report from an inspector of the Burabay National Park about an instance of illegal fishing on Lake Zhukey.

Officers who arrived on the scene detained three suspects, who turned out to be two residents of Astana and a native of the Zhambyl Region, who had previously been repeatedly prosecuted for criminal offences.

At the scene, fish weighing a total of 132 kg was seized. Law enforcement officers have launched a pre-trial investigation. It was noted that this is the fourth recorded case of poaching in a week on Lake Zhukey.

For context, the day before, a poacher from the Turkestan Region was detained there. Officers found 160 kg of fish, a rubber boat, and fishing nets in the boot of his car.

Five days prior to that, inspectors from the Burabay National Park detained poachers who had caught more than 650 kg of fish on Lake Zhukey. This was the largest case of fish poaching within the national park in the last 5 years. The amount of damage was 9.1 million tenge

At the same time, the national park has promised that by the end of this year, smart video surveillance systems, Smart National Park Burabay, will be installed on Lake Zhukey. It is expected that this will effectively monitor the situation on the water body and promptly stop cases of poaching.
