Minister of Industry and Construction Yersaiyn Nagaspayev has commented on the situation with the long-term construction project - the ZhanaArka residential complex in Astana, which was flooded up to the second floor level.

According to the MIA "Kazinform", the minister stated that a criminal case has been initiated regarding this matter. The issue of transferring the property to the affected shareholders is being resolved.

"We are aware of this situation. The developer is 'BBC Gold'. Construction work is not ongoing. A criminal case has now been opened in conjunction with law enforcement agencies. A housing construction cooperative (HCC) has been established by the shareholders," the minister reported during a briefing at the Government.

At the same time, he noted that there are currently 42 problematic construction projects in the country under monitoring.

For context, earlier in Astana, the unfinished ZhanaArka residential complex was flooded. Groundwater rose to the level of the second floor, flooding basements both on the construction site itself and in neighbouring buildings.

Residents note that water did not enter the apartments, but it did flood the underground areas. The problem is particularly acute for shareholders who have been unable to secure the completion of construction for several years.
