A blogger from Shymkent is suspected of extorting 1.2 million tenge from a teacher.

A blogger suspected of extorting a teacher from a secondary school has been detained in Shymkent.

According to Zakon.kz, the teacher filed a police report stating that the blogger, using his media status, threatened to disseminate some compromising information. He demanded 1.2 million tenge in exchange for not publishing it.

«Officers from the city police department detained citizen S., suspected of extorting a large sum of money. A criminal case has been opened. Necessary investigative actions are underway,» the Shymkent police department reported.

The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility.

For context, in January, police in Almaty detained a businessman and two bloggers suspected of blackmail and threats to publish compromising materials on social media. It was reported that the offenders were extorting 8 million tenge.

In February, in the village of Karabalyk, Karabalyk District, Kostanay Region, blogger Mirshad Sarsenbaev was detained on suspicion of extorting 15 million tenge.
