Border guards prevented attempts to illegally import cigarettes at the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border at the «Karasu» and «Aisha bi» checkpoints.
According to the press service of the State Revenue Committee, at the «Karasu» checkpoint cigarettes were discovered in a refrigerator, which, according to accompanying documents, should have contained Bulgarian peppers.
During the inspection, more than 180,000 packs of undeclared cigarettes of the brands «Oris», «Parlament» and «Zumerret» were seized.
At the «Aisha bi» checkpoint in a lorry, which, according to accompanying documents, should have contained beans, 15,000 packs of undeclared «Oris» cigarettes were found.
It is reported that all tobacco products lack the identification means required for excisable goods.
The department noted that all materials will be transferred to the Department of Economic Investigations for the Zhambyl region for a procedural decision.
Recall that earlier it was reported that due to cigarette smuggling last year, the state budget of Kazakhstan lost approximately 33 billion tenge.
In September, a batch of smuggled cigarettes brought in from the territory of Turkmenistan bypassing the customs control zone was identified by employees of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) in the Mangystau region. The customs value of the confiscated 6.5 million packs of cigarettes amounted to nearly 1.5 billion tenge.
In August last year, in Uralsk a large batch of cigarettes with fake excise stamps (UCM) totalling more than 1.6 million packs was seized. It was valued at 967.5 million tenge.
At the same time, it became known that the AFM department for the Zhambyl region was investigating a criminal case concerning an attempt to import from the Kyrgyz Republic two railcars of tobacco products worth over 1.3 billion tenge without UCMs and accompanying documents.
