Police officers in the Kokpekti district of the Abai region have used unmanned aerial vehicles to identify illegal dumping sites as part of the national initiative ‘Taza Kazakhstan’ and the departmental programme ‘Police for Cleanliness’. Modern technologies have made it possible to effectively detect offenders of sanitary standards and take appropriate enforcement measures.
The use of drones in environmental monitoring represents a qualitatively new approach to tackling the problem of spontaneous landfills. Unmanned aerial vehicles can provide rapid inspection of large areas inaccessible to traditional patrols and can accurately pinpoint locations of illegal waste disposal.
According to Polisia.kz, law enforcement officers not only identified places of unauthorised waste dumping but also identified those responsible for violations of sanitary legislation. This approach ensures personal accountability for environmental pollution and increases the effectiveness of environmental protection measures.
The statistics on violations in the region indicate the scale of the problem: since the beginning of this year, 5,872 cases of violations of public improvement rules and pollution of public spaces have been recorded in the area. These figures highlight the relevance of applying innovative control methods and the need for a comprehensive approach to solving the problems.
An important aspect of the work being carried out is preventive activity. It is reported that police officers are conducting explanatory conversations with the public, informing citizens about the size of fines for violating environmental legislation and explaining the importance of observing sanitary standards.
Alongside this, the problem of illegal dumps is systemic across the entire country. Previously, the FBK conducted a large-scale investigation of environmental violations in the capital region, which revealed serious shortcomings in the field of waste management. Public attention contributed to the Ministry of Ecology acknowledging the illegality of a number of large landfills and tightening control measures, but many problems require constant monitoring.
The integration of modern technologies into environmental protection activities demonstrates the readiness of state structures to use innovative solutions to protect the environment.
The use of drone technologies in environmental control opens up new opportunities for effective monitoring of the state of the environment and rapid response to violations of environmental legislation. This experience could serve as a basis for expanding the practice of using modern technical means in environmental protection activities in other regions of Kazakhstan.
