In Kazakhstan, a training laboratory for unmanned aircraft systems has started operating at the Forensic Science and Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). In this laboratory, police officers are being trained to operate drones for the purpose of carrying out official tasks.
HOW THE TRAINING IS ORGANISED
According to the press service of the MVD, the opening of the laboratory is part of the modernisation and digital transformation of the internal affairs bodies. The training of police officers includes a theoretical course, sessions on specialised simulators, and practical computer-based work.
Particular attention is paid to the use of drones in real-world conditions. The technologies are applied for rapid response and for conducting search and investigation operations.
WHAT THE MVD REPORTED
Chief Forensic Expert of the Forensic Science and Criminal Investigation Department of the MVD Rollan Moldybaev reported that the laboratory was created on the orders of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
"Our task is to train officers who can confidently and effectively use modern technologies in their daily work," he noted.
FOR WHAT TASKS ARE DRONES USED
Unmanned aerial vehicles make it possible to expand the capabilities of police officers. They are used for night surveillance and aerial reconnaissance, and are also equipped with high-resolution cameras and thermal imaging devices.
This helps in searching for people in the dark and in adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, drones allow for a swift aerial overview of an incident scene, enabling the recording of the situation before the arrival of the investigative team and preserving important details.
Drones are also used to survey hard-to-reach areas, including mountainous terrain, steppe areas, and abandoned structures. According to the MVD, this increases the effectiveness of searches for missing persons and aids in the surveillance and apprehension of wanted individuals.
HOW THE TECHNOLOGIES ARE APPLIED IN PRACTICE
The practical use of drones has already yielded results in the Turkistan Region. According to the department, a drone helped to quickly solve a case of cattle theft.
Suspects were identified, their movements were recorded, and evidence was gathered, which allowed authorities to track down the buyer of the stolen property.
WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF INTRODUCING UAVS
The MVD believes that the use of unmanned technologies contributes to an increased speed of response, greater accuracy in the work of officers, and a higher level of public safety.
