Residents of Almaty have noticed unusual activity along the road on the Eastern Bypass, where municipal services were spraying a green liquid onto yellowed grass. A video from the scene has caused surprise and raised questions among the city's residents.

According to Tengrinews.kz, in response to the outcry on social media, the Medeu district administration explained that specialists are using a special product based on food dye and fertilisers.

According to the administration, the mixture is made from organic pigments, contains no toxic substances, and is safe for people, animals, and the environment.

"Given the dry summer this year, a special product is being used to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the lawn in the Medeu district. <…> It gives the grass cover a green hue, preserving a well-maintained look," the Medeu district administration reported.

The administration also noted that similar technologies are used in a number of foreign countries with adverse weather conditions.

As previously reported, in December last year it was announced that in 2025, 10.6 billion tenge will be allocated for environmental projects in Almaty. It was also noted that one of the priority areas would be the greening of the city.
