Whom was convicted in the case of assaulting medical workers in Karaganda

There is confusion in the case of the attack on doctors at a children's hospital in Karaganda — the court and the police interpret differently who exactly was sentenced to 10 days' arrest.

To recap, the incident occurred on 12 June. A 38-year-old man beat up doctors after a verbal altercation. It later emerged that he is a relative of one of the patients. The injured medics were hospitalised in the emergency neurosurgery department of the regional hospital.

"This is not just an act of hooliganism — it is an egregious act of violence against those who have dedicated their lives to saving others," said Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova.

The main attacker has been arrested for two months in a criminal case.

The Specialised Interdistrict Court for Administrative Offences of Karaganda reported that a participant in the attack was sentenced to 10 days for obstructing the activities of medical workers, petty hooliganism and disobeying the police. The defendant pleaded guilty and showed remorse.

Meanwhile, the Police Department of Karaganda Region called the court's information incorrect. According to police, it was not the attacker who was arrested for 10 days, but a close relative of the main suspect — for offensive remarks directed at the doctors and disobeying police orders.

Following the police statement, the court removed its press release from Telegram.

Notably, according to the Ministry of Health, there have been more than 50 cases of attacks on emergency medical workers over the past four years. In response, body cameras for medics — devices with a camera, GPS and panic button — are being trialled in Astana and Almaty.
