Villagers are being billed for the rubbish they themselves took out in the Almaty Region

Residents of the village of Yntymak in the Almaty region are being charged for waste collection, despite disposing of it themselves.

According to the Telegram channel “They’re Already on Their Way for Us”, villagers reported that there are no waste collection bins in the village, and people deal with their rubbish on their own.

Nevertheless, almost six months ago, residents began receiving bills for waste collection.

“Energosbyt told us the bills were sent by mistake and we don’t need to pay them. But the akim of the Zhambyl district and the director of the individual entrepreneur responsible for the collection service told the villagers they’d have to pay anyway,” the message reads.

It is noted that the individual entrepreneur is threatening the villagers with legal action, freezing their bank accounts, seizing their property, and restricting their ability to leave the country.

Earlier, in Zhanaozen, authorities found that waste collection service charges were inflated. The tariff for city residents was set at 433.46 tenge, of which 87.87 tenge was charged for waste sorting.

However, since November 2023, no waste sorting has taken place in the city. As a result, more than 152,000 consumers, including 1,556 businesses, overpaid for services by a total of 117 million tenge.
