The trial has concluded in Taldykorgan over the high-profile murder of 16-year-old Sherzat Polat in Talgar. Nine people received sentences ranging from one and a half to 23 years for murder, attempted murder, hooliganism, theft, and failure to report a crime.
According to the court's press service, on 4 October 2024, a conflict arose between Darkhan Askentai and Sherzat Polat over the rude treatment of Polat's father, Karzhau Bay NuryMov. Polat struck Askentai several times in the face.
Askentai's friend Nurbol ToktauBaev arrived at the shop with an underage driver, Duman Yskak. ToktauBaev called his acquaintance Shyngys Belgozhaev. In response, NuryMov called his brother Nurkanat Gaipbaev, and Polat called his underage friends.
10-15 minutes later, Azamat ToktauBaev, NurkIyas Ilyasov, RaviL Sakiev, Shyngys Belgozhaev, Abzal Shynasyl and others arrived. The conflict escalated into a group brawl.
During the brawl, Shynasyl stabbed the minor M. (causing light bodily harm), and Sakiev hit Gaipbaev in the face. Kaliakhmet tried to attack Gaipbaev, while A. ToktauBaev and Ilyasov were swinging knives. A. ToktauBaev hit NuryMov on the back of the head with a stone, and Shynasyl pushed Polat's grandmother.
Shynasyl inflicted a fatal penetrating stab wound to Polat's chest. Then Shynasyl and Sakiev stabbed Gaipbaev in the right buttock area. Ilyasov beat Gaipbaev with a rifle butt and struck Sherzat's mother, Gulbara Beishembieva. ToktauBaev stole Gaipbaev's phone.
Polat died in the central hospital of Talgar; the remaining victims suffered light bodily harm.
In the end, Judge Erzhan Zhanuzakov passed the following sentences:
- Abzal Shynasyl (murder, hooliganism, attempted murder) — 23 years' imprisonment;
- RaviL Sakiev (attempted murder, hooliganism) — 20 years;
- Azamat ToktauBaev (hooliganism, theft) — 15 years;
- NurkIyas Ilyasov (hooliganism) — 9 years;
- Shyngys Belgozhaev (hooliganism) — 7 years;
- Darkhan Askentai (hooliganism) — 7 years;
- Nurbol ToktauBaev (hooliganism) — 7 years;
- Didar Kaliakhmet (hooliganism) — 7 years;
- Duman Yskak (minor, failure to report a crime) — 1 year 6 months.
The court awarded moral compensation to the victim's relatives: 60 million tenge from Shynasyl, 30 million tenge from Sakiev, and a further 30 million tenge jointly from the remaining convicts and Sakiev in relation to the hooliganism offence.
The court also issued a special ruling, drawing the prosecutor's attention to possible signs of a crime in the actions of witnesses D. ZhaksyGELDI, E. NurBEKova, A. Kazakenov and Yu. RuzbAkiev.
