A truck carrying 8 tonnes of fish has been seized in the Abai region.

A lorry carrying a large batch of fish without the proper permits has been detained in the Abai region.

According to Polisia.kz, police officers stopped a Scania lorry on the Almaty-Oskemen motorway. It turned out the driver was transporting fish products from the Tarbagatai district of the East Kazakhstan Region to Oskemen. 

During an inspection of the cargo compartment, law enforcement officers found 408 sacks of fish, with a total weight of 7,340.3 kg, and 47 boxes of fish fillets, with a total weight of 959.7 kg.

The police have launched a pre-trial investigation into the illegal extraction and transportation of fish resources.

For context, in April it was reported that in the first four months of this year, authorities seized 15,200 metres of fishing nets, 9 tonnes of fish and fish products, around 3.5 thousand saiga horns, 135 hunting weapons, and 81 cubic metres of illegally harvested timber from illegal circulation.

In September, three cases of poaching were reported on Lake Zhukei, which is located in the Burabay National Park in the Akmola region. 

Park rangers detained poachers from Astana, who had caught over 650 kg of fish from the lake. This was the biggest case of fish poaching in the national park in the last five years. The damage amounted to 9.1 million tenge

Five days later, they detained a poacher from the Turkistan region there. In the boot of his car, operatives found 160 kg of fish, a rubber boat, and fishing nets. 

The next day, police detained three suspects for illegal fishing. They turned out to be two residents of Astana and a native of the Zhambyl region, who had previously been repeatedly brought to criminal responsibility. At the scene, fish with a total weight of 132 kg was seized.
