The Almaty prosecutor's office has completed a pre-trial investigation into the embezzlement of budget funds at the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU).
According to the press service of the department, a previous inspection revealed that in 2020 KazNARU concluded 3 government procurement contracts for the purchase of sugar corn seeds, the mineral fertiliser "ammophos", and ammonium nitrate totalling 43.8 million tenge.
It later transpired that the specified goods were not actually delivered, and the money was cashed out.
Medeu District Court No. 2 found the director of the "Saimasai" educational and experimental farm of KazNARU guilty and sentenced him to 7 years' imprisonment, suspended. It is noted that the damage was fully compensated.
Recall that at the end of September it was reported that the rector of the M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University Kairat Nurmanbetov was detained on suspicion of receiving a bribe of about 28 million tenge.
In July, employees of the Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU) accused the institution's management of major financial violations. According to them, a tradition of "skimming" funds, allocated annually by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, has developed at ENU.
In May, Aset Kaliev was detained, Chairman of the Board and Rector of the NJSC "Marat Ospanov West Kazakhstan Medical University". He is suspected of receiving a bribe of 12 million tenge.
