The Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan, with the assistance of the Kazakh embassy in Belarus, has extradited a suspect accused of large-scale fraud.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, his actions caused damage to 13 residents of Turkestan totalling more than 10 million tenge.
It was reported that from January 2022 to August 2023, the suspect acted as part of a group of individuals in Turkestan. It is believed that the perpetrators deceived citizens by offering assistance in obtaining non-repayable cash grants to start a business.
The court has already found one of the accomplices guilty. The second suspect fled and was subsequently placed on an international wanted list.
In October 2024, law enforcement agencies in Belarus detained the wanted individual. Upon request from the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan, the suspect was extradited to Astana, where he was placed in a pre-trial detention centre.
It is noted that for fraud on an especially large scale, the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years, with confiscation of property.
For context, in May 2023, Belarus extradited two citizens to Kazakhstan for corruption and robbery.
