Residents of the Zheleznodorozhny residential area in Astana are complaining about regular power outages due to the unfinished Kazbek substation costing 951 million tenge

According to reports from ORDA, Majilis deputy Düsenbay Turganov has even sent an official request to Economy Minister Serik Zhumangarin on the matter.

"Residents are outraged that the construction of the substation, which could solve their utility problems, has dragged on for several years. <…> The systematic power outages not only cause serious inconvenience for residents, but also threaten their health and safety. Such a situation is unacceptable in the capital," Turganov emphasised.

It has emerged that construction on the substation began in 2017. Work was suspended due to adjustments to the project and estimate documentation (PED). The project was then passed from one department to another, but no decision was ever made.

The Majilisman reminded that deputies have repeatedly contacted government bodies, yet the issue remains unresolved.

He also noted that the substation is important not only for residents, but also for a multidisciplinary medical centre, a tuberculosis dispensary, and a military unit.

It should be recalled that in February, a local state of emergency was declared in the Shet district of the Karaganda region, and electricity supply was restricted due to power supply problems.

It was reported that Shet-Energo LLP was not complying with the requirements of Zhezkazgan Distribution Electricity Grid Company JSC regarding electricity transmission. Furthermore, the company had not invested in modernising the power grids, leading to systematic disruptions to the power supply.
