Specialists from the Department of Ecology of the Mangistau Region have analysed the water composition on the shore of the Caspian Sea, where approximately 300 seal carcasses were previously discovered, and found no abnormal deviations. It was earlier reported that scientists had found mechanical damage on the bodies of many of the dead animals.
"On the seashore in the Tupkaragan district, 289 seal carcasses were discovered. With the help of the local executive body, they were collected and transported to a landfill. Toxicological and histological studies of the found seal carcasses were carried out jointly with the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology. Samples were taken from 112 seals," reported the Kazinform International News Agency citing the ministry.
According to the conclusion of the initial examination, specialists from the Department of Ecology of the Mangistau Region found no abnormal deviations.
"We took samples of the coastal water from the place where the seal carcasses were found. The result will be ready soon, and we may find out the cause. Laboratory research is currently being conducted," said Yerlan Nysanbayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
It will be recalled that at the end of October, more than 150 dead seals were washed up on the shore of the Caspian Sea in the Tupkaragan district of the Mangistau Region. According to local blogger Azamat Sarsenbaev, the incident occurred after recent storms. It was noted that many of the dead animals had mechanical damage on their bodies.
Incidentally, in the spring of this year, it was reported that dead seals were periodically being found on the shore of the Caspian Sea. The first reports of dead animals appeared on 29 March. At that time, employees of the Fisheries Inspectorate of the Mangistau Region discovered 62 carcasses of dead seals in the Tupkaragan district during monitoring.
On 25 April, in the Tupkaragan district of the Mangistau Region, employees of the Fisheries Inspectorate found 12 seal carcasses.
