A serviceman of the Akmola garrison has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault of a minor girl in Astana.
According to Tengrinews.kz, the suspect may be the deputy commander of a battalion in one of the military units of the Ministry of Defence.
"A serviceman of the Akmola garrison of the Ministry of Defence, who was on a training course, has been detained on suspicion of committing a criminal offence and arrested by court order. The investigation is ongoing," the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
Earlier, journalists from Ratel.kz wrote that the crime was committed in one of Astana's hospitals. It was reported that the suspect, who holds the rank of lieutenant colonel, sexually assaulted a minor girl born in 2016. Afterwards, he was allegedly beaten by one of the facility's patients.
