The saiga antelope horns cost a resident of the West Kazakhstan Region 429 million tenge.

The court of the Baiterek district in the West Kazakhstan Region found a local resident guilty of illegally acquiring, storing, and transporting saiga horns.

According to the press service of the department, while on the territory of the Bokey Orda district, the man illegally acquired, stored, and transported 291 saiga horns. The damage to the state amounted to 429,079,500 tenge. In court, the defendant admitted his guilt but disagreed with the amount of damages.



As a result, the court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 7 years' imprisonment with a ban on hunting activities for a period of 5 years. He will serve his sentence in a minimum-security penal facility.

It is noted that the court applied the Law "On Amnesty in Connection with the Thirtieth Anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan" to the defendant and reduced the sentence by one-fifth.

Also, damages in the amount of 429,079,500 tenge and a state duty of 1% of the recovered damages amounting to 12,872,385 tenge were recovered from the defendant in favour of the state.

Recall that in May, in the Zhetysu region, a resident of Temirtau was detained on suspicion of illegally selling more than 300 saiga horns. According to preliminary estimates, the amount of damage amounted to 539.6 million tenge.
