Russia has restricted imports of chicken carcasses from two Kazakhstani producers

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance has temporarily banned supplies of chicken carcasses from the Zhas Kanat enterprise and tightened controls on products from the Prima Kus company

This is reported by ORDA, citing the press service of the Russian agency. It is noted that salmonella was found in products from Zhas Kanat — a bacterium capable of causing acute intestinal infections. Maduramicin was detected in products from Prima Kus — a veterinary antibiotic which, if used incorrectly, has toxic properties.

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance specified that temporary restrictions were imposed on the import of products from Zhas Kanat into Russia, while Prima Kus was placed under enhanced laboratory control.

In response, the manager of the Zhas Kanat factory, Daniyar Alguzhin, stated in a media comment that all products undergo inspection and comply with sanitary requirements. He suggested that the problem may have arisen during the transportation of the meat.

For context, at the end of January, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance first published, and then deleted, a post stating that in the Russian city of Barnaul, listeria bacteria were allegedly found in a batch of broiler chicken fillet produced by the Kazakh Makinsk poultry farm.

Later, the Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, refuted the information previously published by the Russian agency.
