Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor) Anton Karmazin held talks with the acting chairperson of the State Inspection Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Saken Kanybekov.
According to the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor, the Russian side expressed concern over the failure of their Kazakh counterparts to comply with temporary restrictions on the import of wheat, flax seeds, and lentils into the territory of the Russian Federation.
"The agency has identified cases of import of grain products of Kazakh origin: 5,000 tonnes of wheat each to Rostov Sea Multimodal Port LLC and Temryuk Sea Commercial Port JSC, whose infrastructure does not provide for direct grain transshipment. Furthermore, quarantine pests harmful to the EAEU were detected in some of the delivered products.", the statement reads.
Rosselkhoznadzor believes that the current situation creates high risks of the spread of quarantine objects and, due to the use of shared port infrastructure, could lead to the contamination of export batches of Russian grain.
The Russian agency called on its Kazakh counterparts to take measures aimed at complying with the EAEU quarantine phytosanitary requirements and to adhere to the imposed restrictions.
For context, from 1 January 2025, Kazakhstan resumed the import of grain from Russia, lifting the ban that had been in effect since 21 August 2024.
