In Petropavlovsk, due to rising water levels in the Ishim River, flooding occurred on dacha plots in the settlement of Zarechny and the River Port district.
According to the MIA "Kazinform", the akim of the North Kazakhstan Region, Gauyes Nurmukhambetov, reported that this year the flood in the region is occurring in three waves. The peak of the flood in Petropavlovsk is expected on 28–30 April.
"Due to the rising water level in the Ishim River, the water has spread across the valleys. The water has now flooded dacha plots in the settlement of Zarechny and the River Port district. There are no residents at these dachas; posts from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the police have been set up," said Nurmukhambetov.
The situation remains tense in the populated areas of the Kyzylzhar district — Oikala, Bylgary, Teplichnoye and Pribrezhnoye.
"We are keeping the situation under constant control until the flood is completely over. The main priority is preserving the lives and property of citizens. All services must be on high alert and act promptly," said Gauyes Nurmukhambetov.
As part of measures to protect the population in the settlement of Zarechny, which is located in the floodplain zone of the Ishim, the authorities have decided to relocate residents to safe areas. In the populated area, there are six multi-storey buildings, 90 private houses, Secondary School No. 13, and a correctional facility.
As alternative housing, two apartment buildings with 90 and 72 flats are being constructed in the Kopai microdistrict. The construction of a correctional facility and a new school for 600 pupils is also planned. Previously, entry to Zarechny was temporarily restricted due to the river overflowing.
