Residents of the Abai region have been sentenced to 5 years in prison for stealing 260,000 saplings.

In the city of Kurchatov, Abai region, a sentence was passed on two local residents for the theft of saplings from the territory of the Dolon branch of the RGU "Semey Ormany".

According to Polisia.kz, the defendants stole more than 260,000 saplings worth over 519 million tenge.

As a result, on 21 May, the city court found them guilty and sentenced them to 5 years in prison without confiscation of property.

It will be recalled that the initiation of a criminal case into the theft of pine saplings intended for landscaping and reforestation in the "Semey Ormany" nature reserve was reported in April of this year.

It was noted that the criminal group included local residents and former employees of the state reserve. At the same time, the 38-year-old organiser and his accomplices were detained and taken into custody in the Pavlodar region.
