A repeat-offending fraudster swindled residents of Astana out of 82 million tenge

The perpetrator created the appearance of a successful entrepreneur. He drew up fictitious contracts, misleading clients about the possibility of purchasing flooring in Russia at favourable prices.

According to the press service of the capital’s prosecutor’s office, the fraudster convinced buyers that he had established connections for the supply of construction materials from abroad, actively promoting his activities on social media.

For example, he caused damage to one of the victims in the amount of more than 6 million tenge. Overall, 49 people suffered from his criminal activities, totalling over 82 million tenge.

In court, prosecutors proved that the guilty party did not have any actual ability to fulfil his obligations.

“He concluded supply contracts as part of his criminal intent, and disposed of the stolen funds for personal purposes,” the statement said.

It has emerged that the man had previously served a prison sentence for a similar crime.

Ultimately, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 4 years and 8 months in prison. The civil claims of the victims were satisfied in full. The verdict has entered into legal force.

Recall that in July 2023, a complaint was received by the FBRK editorial office regarding the fraudulent actions of the owners of a capital city store. It was reported that a company selling flooring in Astana takes advance payments from potential buyers but does not deliver the goods themselves. At that time, around 50 Kazakhstanis were affected, and the total amount of damage exceeded 60 million tenge.
