The Akimat of Astana has proposed changing the working hours of some organisations to reduce congestion on the road network during peak times. This was announced by the Deputy Akim of the city, Yersin Otebayev.

According to Informburo.kz, he clarified that the authorities plan to shift the working day by half an hour.

"We will take this initiative to the government level regarding the shift of working hours for central executive bodies. Whether it will be half an hour, or whether it will be an hour, we will discuss it with our educational and healthcare facilities", the statement reads.

According to the Deputy Akim, this will help distribute traffic during peak hours.

"Every passenger using public transport will need to leave for work half an hour earlier. Drivers will also need to set off half an hour earlier, thus distributing the flow of traffic more evenly. But this issue requires further refinement", said Otebayev.

The Akimat proposed the following working hours:

  • medical institutions – from 7:30 (instead of 8:00);
  • educational institutions – from 8:00 (instead of 9:00);
  • ministries – from 8:30 (instead of 9:00);
  • national companies – from 8:30 (instead of 9:00);
  • financial institutions – from 9:30 (instead of 9:00);
  • shopping and business centres – from 10:00 (instead of 9:00).

It was previously reported that 12 out of 13 administrative units in the East Kazakhstan region had adapted the working hours of state institutions, enterprises and social services to the new time.
