An inspector from the civilian and service weapons control department of the police department of the Maktaral district of the Turkestan region, Nursultan Aldabergenov, has been convicted of corruption. According to Ratel.kz, he was detained in August on suspicion of repeatedly accepting bribes.

The investigation established that the inspector was bribed to issue licences confirming successful completion of training and retraining programmes on the safe handling of civilian and service weapons. The bribe for such a 'service' was 15,000 tenge

Furthermore, the defendant helped, for 40,000 tenge, to process documents and permits for the purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition for civilians. In total, the former police officer received 110,000 tenge.

Aldabergenov pleaded guilty in full. The court took into account that he is the sole breadwinner in his family and has three minor children and an elderly mother with serious health problems to support.

The court also considered the presence of aggravating circumstances, such as violation of the law enforcement officer's oath of service.

In the end, the court found Aldabergenov guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 3,850,000 tenge. In addition, the convict was stripped of the rank of 'Police Captain' and banned for life from holding positions in state bodies.

For example, at the beginning of August, the former head and an inspector of the Migration Service Department (MSD), as well as a former inspector of the Auezov district police department of the Abay region, were convicted of corruption.

According to the investigation, the head of the department received a bribe from a police officer for a job transfer, acting through an intermediary – the MSD inspector. The bribe amount was $1,000.

In June, the commander of the 8th company of the Shymkent patrol police regiment, Azamat Aimbetov, was sentenced to 7 years' imprisonment for accepting a large bribe.

In April, the head of the migration department of the Shymkent police department, Sungat Tugelbayev, was convicted of receiving bribes totalling $8,000. The former chief accepted bribes for issuing residence permits and granting citizenship to foreigners. Alongside the police officer, the intermediary Akmoral Soyirkaz was also convicted.
