In the North Kazakhstan region, the environmental prosecutor's office stopped a poacher from evading responsibility.
According to the regional prosecutor's office press service, in 2022 law enforcement officers launched a pre-trial investigation into the illegal hunting of a Siberian roe deer, but it was later terminated due to the absence of a criminal offence. The damage caused is estimated at 1.2 million tenge.
"The criminal prosecution body took no measures for two years to recover the damages and bring the poacher to justice as established by law."
As a result, the prosecutor's office overturned the unlawfully terminated pre-trial investigation.
"The completeness of the investigation was ensured; based on Part 9 of Article 35 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the guilty party was brought to administrative responsibility. At the same time, following an act of prosecutorial supervision, the authorised body filed a lawsuit in court for the recovery of damages caused to the animal world, amounting to 1.2 million tenge."
It is reported that the district court granted the claim for damages in full.
