In the Ili district of the Almaty region, a sentence has been passed on the head of the district education department and seven accountants from the same department.

According to the press service of the Anti-Corruption Agency, they were found guilty of embezzling 686 million tenge by transferring salaries to individuals who were not actually working in the education sector.
Furthermore, the head of the department fictitiously employed his own driver at a subordinate school-gymnasium as a careers advisor. He was illegally paid a total salary of 4.9 million tenge.
As a result, the head was sentenced to 8 years in prison with a lifetime ban from holding positions in the civil service. The accountants were sentenced to between 7 and 8 years in prison with a 10-year ban from holding civil service positions.
On the government agency's website, it is stated that Lyazzat Katkeyeva has been the head of the education department of the Ili district since January 2021.
It will be recalled that the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Almaty region was conducting a pre-trial investigation into the head of the education department of the Ili district, as reported in February last year.
