The Anti-Corruption Service for the Aktobe region has completed a pre-trial investigation into the head of the construction department of the Mugalzhar district and deputies of the district maslikhat.
According to the press service of the agency, they are suspected of embezzling 672 million tenge through the purchase of a 70-flat hostel disguised as a residential building intended for socially vulnerable groups of the population.
The investigative court has sanctioned a measure of restraint for the suspects in the form of detention and house arrest.
The suspects' money and property have been seized to the value of more than 640 million tenge. In addition, as part of the investigation, they have voluntarily repaid part of the material damage amounting to 359 million tenge.
It will be recalled that last November in the Aktobe region, several developers were prosecuted criminally. For example, the director of the LLP 'Andora Construction', without obtaining permission from the local executive body to attract money from shareholders, sold flats to 25 citizens worth 313 million tenge using fictitious contracts. The No. 2 Court of Atyrau found him guilty and sentenced him to 5 years' imprisonment.
