A two-storey house and a bathhouse with a plot of land in the village of Akshi, Almaty Region, which businessman Yevgeny Yevkovich handed over to Nurlan Masimov as a bribe, were sold for 200,000 tenge

According to the Telegram channel "Nege.Aqsha", the brother of former KNB chairman Karim Masimov sold the plot before the investigation became interested in it. It is reported that the purchase and sale agreement was concluded on 11 February 2022, and the criminal case was opened in early April of the same year.

"Being the head of the police department of the Pavlodar Region, he was aware of the consequences of the pre-trial investigation, as well as criminal liability involving the confiscation of the guilty person's property", the judge noted.

It is noted that Masimov sold the land plot with the cottage and bathhouse for just 200,000 tenge, whereas Yevkovich spent 70 million tenge on their construction.

"Therefore, these circumstances, i.e. the sale of the land plot with the built structures for 200,000 tenge, raise doubts in the court. Moreover, neither permits nor technical documents were issued for the construction of this two-storey house and bathhouse. There is every reason to believe that the transaction was fictitious", the court reported.

For context, in August 2023, Nurlan Masimov, his deputy Damir Sirazidimov, and businessman Yevgeny Yevkovich were sentenced to 10, 8, and 7 years, respectively. In addition, the defendants were ordered to compensate the Pavlodar Region police department 421.6 million tenge

They were accused of accepting a bribe on a large scale, and the misappropriation or embezzlement of entrusted foreign property on an especially large scale by Nurlan Masimov. Among other things, they were accused of deliberately illegally crossing the state border.

At the same time, the court seized the cars of businessman Yevgeny Yevkovich. The businessman voluntarily compensated the material damage he caused. In December of last year, the appeals court reduced his prison sentence from 7 to 5 years, but upheld the seizure of the confiscated cars. They were transferred to the Pavlodar Department of State Property and Privatisation.
