Residents of the village of Zhalpaksaz in the Zhambyl region have been waiting for several years for proper water supply to arrive.

According to Ulysmedia.kz, the village of Zhalpaksaz is the birthplace of Olympic champion Yeldos Smetov, where the athlete's relatives still live.

Villagers say that a couple of years ago they had gas installed, but water supply is still absent.

"Gas was connected one or two years ago, but there is no water. They have been promising to sort this issue out for several years now, but there is still no water. They just promise, and that's it. We go and collect water from the 'gravity-fed tap'," she said.

For context, in Paris, Yeldos Smetov became the first Kazakhstani judoka in history to win an Olympic Games. Later, in front of the Olympic champion's home in the village of Sulu Tor in the Zhambyl region, where the athlete now lives, new asphalt was laid.
