Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has approved a comprehensive development plan for the Shchuchinsk-Borovoe resort zone for 2025–2029.
According to the government press service, the signed document contains 118 measures worth 137.2 billion tenge. It is aimed at developing tourism infrastructure, transport logistics, digital solutions, security systems, and attracting investment.
"According to the plan, the modernisation of the resort will cover key areas, including the creation of year-round tourist facilities, the development of ecological and sports tourism, and the construction of new recreation zones", the statement said.
For example, near Lake Katarkol plans include children's centres, sports and health complexes, and a year-round water park.
In the area of Lake Zhukei, campsites, glampings and new tourist routes will appear, and on Maloye Chebachye Lake – rental stations, boat stations, coastal infrastructure and beaches.
As part of the development of winter leisure activities, the organisation of ski bases with sports equipment rental, catering points and souvenir shops is envisaged.
"To ensure comfortable access to the resort zone, transport infrastructure will be built, including multi-level car parks with visitor centres and catering points", the statement said.
It is expected that the implementation of the plan will lead to an increase in the number of tourists from 35,000 to 94,000 people, growth in tourism employment from 22,000 to 32,500 people and the attraction of investments worth 22.7 billion tenge. Tourism's share in the region's economy should increase from 1.4% to 3.5%.
