The Prosecutor's Office of the Shemonaikha District of the East Kazakhstan Region has uncovered instances of medical workers unjustifiably inflating the number of services provided to convicts at Institution No. 18.

According to the press service of the department, in December 2023, a surgeon examined 15 convicts during a visit to the institution, but entered records of treating 160 individuals in the log. Based on this, the doctor was accrued a salary of 214 thousand tenge, whereas payment for examining 15 patients amounts to 15,252 tenge.

Other doctors — a dermatovenerologist, a narcologist, a neurologist, and a psychiatrist — similarly inflated the number of convicts they had received. As a result, the total overpayment amounted to 1.4 million tenge.

Following a prosecutor's supervisory order, the unlawfully paid sum was returned to the budget, and those responsible were held disciplinarily accountable.

It will be recalled that earlier, police officers inspected more than 900 organisations that use precursors and medical drugs, including 350 pharmacies, 85 warehouses, 103 medical and preventive institutions, and 362 industrial enterprises.

248 individuals, including 116 medical workers, were brought to administrative responsibility for violations of storage, sale, and transportation conditions. At the same time, law enforcement officers initiated 8 criminal cases in the area of narcotic drug trafficking.
