A mass die-off of camels has been recorded in the Kurmangazy district of the Atyrau region. According to local residents, the animals are one by one losing their appetite, experiencing convulsions, and after two to three days death ensues.

According to the Telegram channel "HALYQSTAN", the regional veterinary department reported that more than 20 camels have died so far, and a further 47 animals are undergoing treatment. The disease has been recorded in several villages in the district — Dingizil, Enbekshi and Makash.

Specialists have taken samples of feed, tissue and biomaterial for laboratory analysis. The National Reference Centre for Veterinary Medicine has already carried out an initial analysis, but the pathogen responsible for the disease has not yet been identified.

The regional akimat has sent a request to the Veterinary Control and Supervision Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture to bring in additional specialists. As journalists note, no official response to the request has been received yet.

Local herders claim that this is the first time such an event has been observed in the region. According to them, more than a dozen camels have died in the villages in the last two weeks alone, and the disease continues to spread.

It will be recalled that on the night of 15 July, a mass die-off of small livestock occurred in the village of Dolinka, Karaganda region. Video recordings from the scene spread on social media — the footage shows dozens of carcasses scattered across the steppe. According to residents, more than 100 sheep and rams died.
