This decision was made at the extraordinary 27th electoral conference of the Kazakhstan Football Federation (KFF). Marat Omarov's appointment received 34 votes out of 36.

According to Zakon.kz, in addition to him, football manager Altai Daumov and sports journalist Erbol Kairov were also contenders for the position of head of the federation. Three others withdrew their candidacies.

It has become known that prior to his appointment, Marat Omarov held the positions of deputy chairman of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition, managing director of Kazakhtelecom JSC and chairman of the board of National Agency for Technological Development JSC.

Incidentally, before Marat Omarov, the federation had been headed by Adilet Barmenkulov since February 2022. At the beginning of November this year, he announced his departure from the post of president of the KFF.

For the record, the FBRK editorial team has repeatedly written that Adilet Barmenkulov's activities as president of the KFF were regularly subject to criticism from football fans and even raised doubts among UEFA leadership.

Further details on why the public was dissatisfied with Barmenkulov's work as head of the football federation, which corruption scandals he was implicated in, and what business he managed to acquire, can be read at the link.
