In the Ulytau region, a fatal accident occurred at the Annenkaya mine of the East Zhezkazgan mine, operated by Kazakhmys Corporation.
"As a result of the industrial accident, a fifth-grade crusher operator, born in 1985, lost his life", the company's press service reported.
It was noted that a special commission has been established to investigate the tragedy.
"The management and staff of Kazakhmys extend their sincere and deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. His family will receive all necessary assistance, including payments stipulated by the collective agreement and funeral expenses", the statement said.
For context, on 6 November 2023, a mine foreman died while performing work at the same mine. That tragedy was also classified as an accident.
On 27 November, Kazakhmys Corporation reported an accident at the Zhaissan mine in the Zhambyl region, which resulted in the deaths of two workers.
In December, another worker died at the Zylandy mine of Kazakhmys Corporation in the Ulytau region. The company's press service stated at the time that the death was caused by an inadvertent collision with an underground self-propelled vehicle.
In October 2024, a carbon monoxide release occurred at the Sayak-3 mine of Kazakhmys Corporation in the Karaganda region. Two workers died, and several others were taken to hospital.
