Court No. 2 of Ust-Kamenogorsk considered the petition of the convicted nephew of the former president - Kairat Satybaldy to replace the unserved part of his sentence with a more lenient one.
According to Zakon.kz, Satybaldy stated in his appeal that he had fulfilled all the requirements for filing a petition for a sentence reduction.
It is reported that the representative of the correctional facility where Satybaldy was serving his sentence supported the convicted man's petition.
"The administration of the correctional facility characterises the convicted man positively; he has received commendations for active participation in educational activities and is a member of a voluntary organisation of convicts", the statement reads.
The prosecutor also asked for Satybaldy's request to be granted, arguing that he had met all the conditions for a sentence reduction and had voluntarily transferred property to the state.
In the end, the court granted Kairat Satybaldy's petition and replaced the unserved part of his custodial sentence with a restriction of liberty for a term of 3 years, 3 months, and 7 days.
Furthermore, probation supervision was established for Satybaldy. If he does not have a permanent job, he may be required to perform up to 100 hours of compulsory labour annually for the entire duration of his sentence.
"By court order, the following duties are imposed on him: to report to the probation service at his place of residence within 10 days of the court order coming into force to register; not to change his permanent place of residence, work, or studies without notifying the authorised state body overseeing the behaviour of the convicted person (the probation service); and to fulfil other duties that help reform the convicted person and prevent him from committing new criminal offences", the court concluded.
Recall that in September last year, Court No. 2 of the Baikonyr district of Astana sentenced Kairat Satybaldy to 6 years in prison. We previously wrote in detail that the former president's nephew is being accused of several criminal episodes related to the oil and gas industry.
Later, Satybaldy filed a petition for parole, but the court of the EKR, after consideration, rejected it.
It was also reported that the total amount of assets returned to the state in connection with the criminal cases against Kairat Satybaldy is 732.8 billion tenge.
