The Anti-Corruption Agency has taken an interest in a potential link between the deputy akim of Atyrau Region Kairat Nurtayev and a private construction company following media reports.

According to the Telegram channel 'They're Already Coming for Us', before taking up the post of deputy akim of the region, Nurtayev was the general director of BatysAliancStroy LLP, which has long been winning tenders from local executive bodies. As previously reported by the media, the LLP is linked to Mazhilis MP of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan from the AMANAT party Adil Zhubanov.

For its part, the Agency reported that the information about violations involving BatysAliancStroy LLP in public procurement, previously published on social media, has been registered with the department. Employees of the Anti-Corruption Service and internal state audit are currently working on it.

'In accordance with subparagraph 5 of Article 181 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the materials for conducting an inspection have been sent to the Department of Internal State Audit (DISA) for Atyrau Region. At the same time, the Department of the Anti-Corruption Agency for Atyrau Region is currently studying the issue of a conflict of interest between officials and BatysAliancStroy LLP,' the statement reads.
