The Prosecutor's Office of the Aktobe Region has revealed that directors of youth sports schools were appropriating funds received from sports teams for the rental of sports facilities.
According to the press service of the department, they spent more than 6 million tenge on their own needs, including on bets at bookmakers.
"In addition, instances were established of purchasing airline services for the flight of the football club 'Aktobe' through several intermediaries at an inflated price totalling over 165 million tenge", the statement says.
In connection with these facts, the regional prosecutor's office has initiated 3 pre-trial investigations under Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Misappropriation or embezzlement of entrusted another's property).
"The results of the inspection were considered at a meeting of the coordination council of the Aktobe Region for ensuring legality, law and order, and combating crime, where responsible state bodies were instructed to rectify the situation with the financing of mass sport, and to use budget funds purposefully and effectively", the statement says.
It is noted that over the last 3 years, spending on the development of professional clubs has increased twofold. More than 13 billion tenge was allocated from the budget for the preparation for and participation in national and international competitions.
Recall that this year, the Anti-Corruption Agency identified about 60 violations in the field of sport. The damage to the state amounted to 1.3 billion
The department reported the completion of a pre-trial investigation against the former head of the state enterprise "Directorate for Sports Development", his deputy, and other implicated individuals. They are suspected of embezzling 746 million tenge of budget funds under the "Artsport" programme.
At the same time, the Anti-Corruption Agency completed another investigation against the head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Atyrau Region. He is suspected of receiving a bribe in the amount of 1.7 million tenge from a coach of the subordinate Olympic Reserve Training Centre for allocating funds for the trip of athletes to training camps.
