A former mayor of Karaganda's son has been convicted of beating his mother.

In the Karaganda region, the son of former Karaganda mayor Shaimerden Urazalinov - Abil - has been convicted.

According to Informburo.kz, during an argument with his mother, born in 1946, Urazalinov struck her with his hands and feet. The woman suffered a closed craniofacial injury, a concussion, and several fractures. 

The court sentenced Abil Urazalinov to 3 years' imprisonment in a medium-security facility. He was also ordered to pay the victim  1 million tenge in moral compensation and to cover legal costs.

Meanwhile, it has become known that in 2012, Abil Urazalinov tried to sue for custody of his children from his ex-wife. At the time, his ex-wife claimed that Urazalinov was "not quite right in the head". According to her, after four serious car accidents, he began behaving very strangely. 

She stated that she was subjected to beatings by him. Furthermore, the ex-wife said that Urazalinov also beat his own parents.
