The Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan has adopted in its second reading a law banning the financing of foreign athletes from the republican budget and by quasi-state sector organisations.

According to Informburo.kz, the legislative amendments stipulate the following changes:

  • determination of priority sports and their funding;
  • exclusion of the sports ranking system;
  • interaction with subjects of physical culture and sport;
  • a vertical model for the accreditation of sports federations.

It has become known that norms have been introduced into the law to promote the development of sports medicine. At the same time, the authorities plan to develop standards for the training of athletes and establish a minimum age for engaging in physical education and sport.

It is noted that as part of the bill, deputies have included national sports in the list of priority ones. In addition, the state now undertakes to reimburse expenses for citizens accompanying athletes with disabilities to competitions.

Let us recall that earlier, the First Deputy Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Service, Ulan Sarkulovreported how much money was allocated over the past six years to FC Astana and HC Barys. He also noted that of the 200 billion tenge allocated to Kazakh football, the lion's share was paid to foreign legionnaires.
